Physics-heavy Space Engineers worlds on AMD Ryzen hardware - mods, custom scenarios, DDoS protected

About This Game

Space Engineers Server Hosting in the UK

Space Engineers dedicated server setup on Windows Server via SteamCMD.

Space Engineers Server Hosting in the UK from Glitch Servers provides low-latency UK game server infrastructure with always-on DDoS protection - backed by AMD Ryzen hardware, NVMe Gen4 storage, and UK-native routing through AS212868. Space Engineers' physics simulation is notoriously CPU-intensive - grids with many thrusters, pistons, and rotors can push a single-threaded simulation to its limits. Our UK hosting uses AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processors with high clock speeds, which is exactly what Space Engineers' single-threaded physics engine needs. NVMe SSD storage handles the large world files Space Engineers generates, and full root access enables Steam Workshop mod installation, custom scenario deployment, and automated cleanup scripts to manage performance-killing ghost grids.

Game server performance at Glitch runs on AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processors - the high single-core clock speeds that game server software depends on for physics calculations, entity management, and script execution. NVMe Gen4 storage eliminates the map-load pauses and save-cycle stutters that affect game servers on spinning-disk or SATA SSD storage.

Network routing through AS212868 with direct LINX and LONAP peering keeps British players on UK-native ISP paths, avoiding the 30–60ms additional latency that routing via Frankfurt or Amsterdam adds for players connecting from UK residential broadband. Corero Smartwall DDoS mitigation is always on - game servers are frequent targets for volumetric attacks, and scrubbing runs at the network edge without adding processing latency to legitimate player traffic.

All plans include full root or admin access for custom configuration, mod installation, and plugin management. No port restrictions. Full game server plan details are on the game server hosting page.

External resources: LINX (London Internet Exchange) and Steam.

Why Glitch Servers

Hardware Built for Game Server Performance

Game servers demand high single-core clock speeds, fast storage for map loading, and DDoS protection as standard - not an upsell.

Getting Started

How to Get Your Server Running

Most servers are online within minutes of ordering.

1

Step 1

Install SteamCMD and download the Space Engineers Dedicated Server (App ID 298740): steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 298740 +quit. Note: the DS requires Windows - use Windows Server 2019 or 2022.

2

Step 2

Run SpaceEngineersDedicated.exe to launch the config GUI (first run only). Set your world name, game mode, max players, and enable mods. The GUI generates SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg which you can then edit directly.

3

Step 3

For headless operation, launch with: SpaceEngineersDedicated.exe -noconsole -path C:\Path\To\Instance. Add mod Workshop IDs to the block in the cfg file for automatic mod downloads.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Space Engineers simulates physics, voxel deformation, grid connectivity, and piston/rotor mechanics primarily on a single CPU thread - when the server cannot complete all simulation work within one tick interval, Sim Speed drops below 1.0 and the game world slows relative to real time. Common causes include large grids with complex sub-grids, piston-rotor contraptions, large asteroid drilling operations, and many active programmable blocks running scripts simultaneously. Our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X delivers the highest single-core clock performance available in our hosting class, allowing the simulation thread to sustain more grid complexity before Sim Speed degrades. For UK co-op groups building large stations or capital ships, hosting locally through AS212868 also eliminates the lockstep latency overhead that amplifies Sim Speed issues on overseas servers.
Space Engineers performs frequent world saves - by default every five minutes - and these saves involve serialising the entire voxel state, all grid positions, and player inventory to disk. On servers with spinning disk or slow SSD storage, world saves can cause a brief server stall as the I/O operation competes with the simulation thread. NVMe Gen4 storage at 3,500 MB/s read and write speeds completes world saves in milliseconds rather than seconds, eliminating the save-stall that players notice as a periodic freeze. Large modded worlds with substantial asteroid deformation or many active grids produce larger save files, making fast storage even more impactful as the game world ages.
Yes - Space Engineers dedicated servers load Workshop mods through the SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg file, where you list Workshop content IDs to download and activate on startup. The server downloads mods from Steam on each restart if updates are available, so your server automatically stays in sync with Workshop mod releases. Full SSH and SFTP access allows you to edit the configuration file directly and manage the Workshop mod list without restrictions. For large mod packs used by UK community servers - such as those combining Warfare systems, industrial overhauls, and scripted scenarios - our NVMe Gen4 storage ensures the mod download and extraction phase on startup completes quickly, minimising downtime after a mod update.
